5 Different Messages A Dog’s Bark Could Carry

Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could if we could communicate with our pets? We could ask them how their day is going, where they want to go on their walk, or if they feel like they are in danger.

If we could communicate through words, life would be a lot easier. Even though dogs can’t speak as humans do they are still able to communicate through the sound of their bark. Here are 5 different messages a dog’s bark could have.

1. Stay Away.

If you see a dog barking at a fence and you don’t know that dog, pay attention to the dog’s bark it may be low and there may be a hint of a growl this means stay away. Some dogs use their bark to claim their territory.

If you are walking by its home and its owner is away, the bark may be used to protect its territory. Even if the dog is cute it may not be so cuddly when it wants you to stay away so be aware. As a good rule of thumb, you should never go up to a dog that you don’t know when the owner is not around.

2. Nice to see you!

Some dogs are just happy to see you and they get very excited. If you see a dog that is happy to see you then it may start barking.

You can tell that it is happy to see you because it will be waving its tail and have what resembles a smile on its face. The barking is also normally faint as opposed to sustained; his own way of saying he is pleased to meet you. In this case, it’s safe to approach the dog and play!

3. I’m Hungary

Because dogs cannot speak using words like humans do sometimes they bark to communicate when they are hungry. If you come home from a long day at work and your dog is barking at you but you don’t see anything wrong, odds are it may just need to be fed.

More interestingly, such dogs will bark when they either notice their owner making their way into the compound [as a reminder that they are hungry] or when they notice anyone carrying some food [as a statement that ’Oh, I saw that, can you share a little?’’

4. Danger!

Dogs have impeccable instincts and are very good at sensing when something is wrong. Because of this, dogs will bark when danger is near. You may notice that many people have dogs just for this reason.

If a dog is barking loudly, maybe even uncontrollably, this is a good sign that something is not right. You will want to pay attention to your surroundings to make sure that the coast is clear.

5. I Missed You!

Did you just leave the house for a two-day vacation? To your dog, this may have seemed like two years! When you get home your dog is immediately going to start barking and whimpering and maybe even jumping up and down. It doesn’t mean that your dog is upset, it means it is very happy that you are back.

When your dog misses you, even if it is because you took a quick trip to the grocery store, it may start barking because it is so happy to see that you didn’t leave for good. Dogs don’t have the same sense of time as humans do. If you notice that your dog is barking because it missed you, give it some tender love and care to let it know that you will be around for a long time.

Conclusion

As a home owner, it is important to take note of every message sent to us by our dogs and how best to do that than study their barks?
